The High Priestess sits between two pillars — Boaz and Jachin, the pillars of Solomon’s Temple — one black, one white. A crescent moon rests at her feet; the veil behind her is embroidered with pomegranates and hides a vast body of water. She holds a Torah scroll half-concealed in her robe. She does not speak; she knows.

Reversed, the still waters become murky. You may be ignoring your intuition, or someone is withholding information from you. The silence is no longer wisdom — it is evasion.

Upright

Go inward. Meditate, journal, dream. The answer you seek is already inside you — this card asks you to sit with it quietly until it surfaces.

Reversed

Clear space for quiet. Turn off the external world long enough to hear yourself. If someone is being secretive, that itself is information.

She derives from Pope Joan legends and the occult figure of Isis. Waite fused these into a guardian of hidden wisdom, drawing on Freemasonic pillar symbolism and Kabbalistic imagery.

Be careful of ignoring your gut. The High Priestess appears when something is known but not yet articulated. Ignore her at your peril.
