A silhouetted figure faces seven cups in the clouds, each containing a different vision: a castle, a wreath, a serpent, a dragon, a figure draped in light, jewels, and a woman. The visions are dazzling — and entirely unmoored from reality. This is the landscape of fantasy, temptation, and the paralysis of too many imagined possibilities.

Reversed, the fog of fantasy clears. One of the cups comes into clear focus; the others fade. A choice is being made; illusion is recognised for what it is.

Upright

Acknowledge which of your visions is genuinely worth pursuing and which are avoidance or self-delusion. Then choose one and pursue it in reality.

Reversed

Test the chosen path against reality before committing your whole self to it.

Seven is the number of mystery and possibility. In Cups, those possibilities multiply into intoxicating but potentially overwhelming options — the seduction of the unreal.

One real cup in the hand is worth seven imagined ones in a cloud. At some point, fantasy must choose.
