A battered but unbowed figure leans on a wand, eight more standing behind him like a fence. He looks over his shoulder warily, clearly having been through a great deal. But he is still standing. This is not fresh confidence — it is earned, hard-won resilience. He has come this far; he will go the last mile.

Reversed, the nine's resilience breaks. Exhaustion wins; the figure can no longer hold the defensive line. Or he becomes so rigidly defensive that no one can reach him, even those who want to help.

Upright

Rest briefly if needed, but do not stop now. You are closer to the finish than you think. The resilience you've built is the foundation for what comes next.

Reversed

Accept help. Lay down the guard enough to let a trusted person in. True resilience includes knowing when to lean.

Nine is the penultimate number — the last step before completion. In Wands, it signifies a battle-tested warrior who has nearly reached the goal.

Wariness from past wounds is wise, but don't let it become paranoia. Not every approaching figure is a threat.
