Four · Minor Arcana — Pentacles
Four of Pentacles
Upright Meaning
A crowned figure sits before a city, clutching a pentacle to his chest, one under each foot, one balanced on his head. He is holding on with every part of his body. The city behind him represents what he’s turned his back on to guard his wealth. He is materially secure — and completely alone.
Reversed Meaning
Reversed, the grip loosens — whether by choice or by force. Money or possessions are released; generosity becomes possible; or financial loss occurs.
Guidance & Advice
Upright
Review what you're holding onto and ask whether the grip is serving you. Some security is wise; excessive control is its own kind of poverty.
Reversed
Let go with intention. Generosity given freely strengthens far more than what hoarding preserves.
History & Symbolism
Four brings stability to pentacles — but in this card, stability tips into stagnation. The conservative energy of Earth becomes excessive, frozen, unable to flow.
What to Look Out For
Security and hoarding are not the same thing. What are you clutching so tightly that you've turned your back on life?
