Two figures pass a stained-glass window — lit and warm within, cold and dark without. One is bandaged and on crutches; the other is barefoot in the snow. They are focused on the ground in front of them. The lit church window offers sanctuary they haven’t yet looked up to notice.

Reversed, the worst is passing. Material improvement is coming; practical help is being accepted; the window above is finally being noticed.

Upright

This difficulty is real and temporary. Seek practical help without shame. Look for the lit window — it exists even in the worst of times.

Reversed

Accept the help being offered. The stigma of hardship is part of what prolonged it. The window is open.

Five disrupts the material world of pentacles into genuine hardship — poverty, illness, exclusion. Waite deliberately placed the glowing church window to signal that no material difficulty is without the possibility of aid.

In hardship, do not forget to look up. Help, warmth, and community may be closer than the frozen gaze can see.
